Baldur's Gate 3

A huge fantasy role-playing game where almost every problem has several solutions. Best enjoyed slowly.

You wake up aboard a crashing ship with a parasite in your head, and the search for a cure takes you across a large fantasy world. The game is built on the rules of Dungeons & Dragons: combat is turn-based, so there is always time to think, and skill checks decide whether a clever conversation or a sneaky shortcut succeeds.

What sets it apart is freedom. Fights can be avoided, characters can be talked round or turned against each other, and your companions remember what you did. Up to four people can play the whole campaign together online, and two can share one screen.

What we like

  • Remarkable freedom of choice
  • Memorable companions and voice acting
  • Turn-based combat with no time pressure

Worth knowing

  • Very long, best for patient players
  • A lot to take in during the first hours
